Granada until the sixteenth century was the capital of ancient Kingdom of Granada and the municipal shield holds the titles of “Very noble, very loyal, appointed, large, very famous and heroic city of Granada.”

Granada is an important receptor core tourism, thanks to the monuments of the city and its proximity to the ski resort of Sierra Nevada, the Alpujarras and Costa Tropical. Of all the monuments particular note is the Alhambra, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984, together with the garden of the Generalife and the Albaicin. Its cathedral is considered the first Renaissance church in Spain
